We leave Rishikesh called as "Gateway
to the Gods". After exploring this sacred town and an overnight stay
in the hotel, we will drive on the following morning to Gangotri
to start a spectacular 4 days trek. Taking the famous pilgrimage
trail we trek on the Gangotri glacier towards Gaumukh (4500M)
- the source of holy Ganges.
Gangotri glacier is a sea of ice almost 30 Kms long. All around is a
vast concourse of moraines, ice falls and smaller glaciers issuing
forth from the legendary mountains that form a circle around
Gangotri. These include the Shivling, three peaks of Bhagirathi,
Sudarshan and Meru. The trek continues in to the breath taking high
altitude pastures of Tapovan before returning back to
Gangotri.
Our next venture starts from Gangotri on the mountain bikes
descending through the same route up to the Uttarkashi and
backed by our Support vehicle carrying luggage, camping equipment
etc. We would first bike besides the mighty Bhagirathi River up to
Tehri followed by a downward trip to Deoprayag besides
the Ganges. From Deoprayag, we will bike up to Shivpuri where from
we will be rafting down the Ganges white waters to Rishikesh. Next
day we will travel in the luxury coaches from Rishikesh.
