meet a Yoga man ,Maharishi Yogi at. Holy place in India. Rishikesh
is a popular spiritual town on the bank of the river Ganga
.The Shivaliks hills, also called the lower Himalayas, surround the
town from three sides .It is the starting point of the “Char Dham
Yatra” the pilgrimage made by devout hindus, which takes them to
ancient temples across the Himalayan ranges. According to religious
tradition, this yatra is performed in a Vama vrata (clockwise)
direction, beginning at Yamunotri and culminating at Badrinath ,Via
Gangotri and Kedarnath.
Rishikesh has been generously endowed by history with ancient
temples. Some of these date back the days of the “Ramayana” For the
Adventurous traveler, Rishikesh is the Epicenter of some serious
adrenalin pumping action .White water rafting ,rock climbing,
parasailing and Trekking and camping, kayaking and canoeing, Its all
happening here. If animals in the wilderness exit you, the Rajaji
National Park is Just a Short drive away ,and during season time
offers excellent opportunities for Elephant safaris and Camping
trips.
Some Interesting places to se are “The Triveni Ghat” which is the
confluence of the Ganga, the Yamuna
and the Legendary Saraswati. “The Laxmanjulla Jhoola” is a
Suspension bridge built in 1929 and replaced a rope bridge. It is
believed that Laxman ,the Younger brother of Lord Rama, crossed the
river on ajute rope at this place. “Bharat Mandir is the oldest
temple in Rishikesh and is dedicated to Bharat, the youngest brother
of lord Rama. Yoga Places and Ashrams Haridwar is the holy place in
India Where all over the world have holy bath on the Ganga This
place is sacred place in India and it is believed that it is the God

Yamunotri :- In the traditional Char Dham Yatra ,this is the
western most shrine of the Himalayas dedicated to goddess Yamuna ,it
is perched stop a flank of the bandarpunch peak (3165 mts)and is
situated opposite the Gangotri.Yamunotri ,or Yamuna ‘Utri is the
source of the sacred river Yamuna, which originates from the
champasar glacier lying 01 Km ahead of the shrine,at an altitude of
4142 mts. Pilgrims usually do not visit the source as it is not
easily accessible.
Gangotri :- The picturesque pilgrimage in the winterlands of
the Himalayas is the most sacred spot where Ganga ,the Stream of
Life ,touched earth for the first time.According to mythology,
Goddess Ganga the Daughter of Heaven,manifiested herself in the form
of a River to Absolve the Sins of king bhagirath’s predecessors,
following his severe penance for several centuries. Lord Shiva
received her into his matted locks to minimize the immense impact of
her fall.She came to be called Bhagirathi a her lengendary
source.The Physical source of the river is at Gaumukh.
Kedarnath :- Amidst the dramatic mountainscapes of the
majestic kedarnath range stands one of the twelve”Jyotrilingas of
Kedar of lord Shiva.Lying at an altitude of 3584 mts .On the head of
river Mandakini,the shrine of kedarnath is amongst the holiest
pilgrimages for the Hindus. The lingam at Kedarnath is pyramidal
,unlike its usual form.A Statue of Nandi-the celestial bull stands
at the entrance of
the temple and exquisitely carved images adorn the interiors of the
temple. Badrinath:-Badrinath temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is
the holiest of four main shrines,badrinath,along the left bank of
river Alaknanda..With splendid Neelkanth mountains as the
backdrop,it si an important destination on the sacred itinerary of
every devout hindu.Situated at an Altitude of 3133 mts ,the present
temple is belived to have been built by Adi Guru Shankaracharya an
08 th century philosopher saint,who also established a ‘Math’ here.
